Awarded his diploma in 1890, he was a school teacher in Fair Bluff, North Carolina, 1884-86; Principal of Globe Academy, 1886-89; and a teacher in Lenoir North Carolina, before becoming editor of the <emph render="italic">Gastonia (North Carolina) Gazette</emph>, 1890-?, and the <emph render="italic">North Carolina Educator</emph>, 1911-.</abstract> <abstract id="ref4" label="Abstract">His papers consist of his Wake Forest College receipts, accounts, compositions, poems, Latin exercises, a survey, speech notebook, diary/notebook, and a logic and rhetoric examination taken by Eva Belle Simmons. His professional papers include papers from the high school at Fair Bluff, North Carolina; correspondence; <title render="italic">Gastonia Gazette</title> newspaper clippings; correspondence with F.P. Hall, and other clippings relating to the Democratic Campaign Club, Gastonia, North Carolina; <title render="italic">North Carolina Education</title> and <title render="italic">North Carolina Poems</title>, 1886-1912; and photographs. Also included are letters from Dr. Willian Louis Poteat to W.F.
