Baum Family Collection
Kurt D. Baum, sometimes Curt, was a young German Jewish boy when he was sent to the United States to escape Nazi rule in Germany. Over several years, beginning in 1937, Baum received letters from his family members in Germany. Materials in the collection include letters, government documents, and realia.
Biographical and Historical Note
Kurt D. Baum, sometimes Curt, was a 17-year-old German Jewish boy in 1937 when he fled from Nazi Germany to the United States, specfically Cincinnati, Ohio. He continually received letters from family members living in Bamberg, Germany, up until about 1958. He was husband to Rose Baum, and together they had two children, Maralynn Martin and Rita (Sam) Postolski. Baum passed away in 2004.

This collection documents communication between Baum, living in the U.S., and his family living in Germany. The collection includes letters, government documents, and realia. Some materials are written in German. This collection is digitized, along with some photographs that were returned to the collection donors; the collection is available in SCA's Digital Collections.
