The Wake Forest College School of Law opened in September 1893 under the leadership of the first Professor of Law, Needham Y. Gulley. The school now includes more than 100 resident and extended faculty members and over 50 staff. This collection highlights work by faculty and staff. Materials include special appointment announcements, correspondence, course proposals, and resumes, known as curriculum vitas.

Biographical and Historical Note

The Wake Forest College School of Law's first professor was Needham Y. Gulley, who taught the first classes in 1894 and also served as the first dean. The school notes that by 1931, approximately half of attorneys in North Carolina had been taught by Dean Gulley. He remained at Wake Forest for 44 years. Today, Wake Forest University School of Law includes over 50 staff and more than 100 resident and adjunct faculty members. Faculty have expertise in various areas of law and typically pair research with teaching. Many faculty are world-renowned scholars, producing work that impacts the development and application of law all over the world.
