Athletics Department. Development Records
The expansion of intercollegiate athletics has evolved into a highly competitive endeavor for colleges and universities which necessitates substantial financial resources. Since the surge in popularity and commercialization of college sports, intercollegiate athletic programs depend heavily on booster funding and capital campaigns to maintain and supplement their operations. This collection documents the fundraising efforts of the Wake Forest University Department of Athletics, as well as its supporting organizations, to sustain the institution's various athletic programs by providing assistance with facility improvements and to address the needs of the university's student-athletes.
Biographical and Historical Note
Development has been a continuous effort for Wake Forest University Athletics. Since 1950 University Athletics has received various forms of funding and financial support from alumni and local businesses via donations and fundraising campaigns. One such develoment endeavor was the formation of the Deacon Club. This booster club spearheads many of the fundraising campaigns that help the university's athletics department. The Deacon Club receives donations from alumni and university supporters to enhance the student-athlete experience.

The materials include fundraising-related documents, including brochures, fliers, and promotional materials. Additionally, the collection includes materials from the athletics booster organization, known as the Deacon Club, which features membership communications as well as photographs from donor events and celebrations.
