The Wake Forest chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon opened in April 1940, after the local fraternity Chi Tau converted to the national organization and became the N.C. Zeta chapter.</p> <p>In 2002, the chapter gained national notoriety after a pig was found drunk, dehydrated, and sunburned after a fraternity event at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, N.C. As a result, the national organization suspended the group's charter in 2002. Though Sig Ep attempted to form a strong colony when it returned to campus in 2009, efforts were unsuccessful and in 2017 the Sigma Phi Epsilon colony was closed by the national fraternity.</p> <p>Sources: <list><item> "Chi Tau Becomes Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Frat." <title render="italic"><part>Old Gold and Black</part></title>. 1940 April 13.
