- Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederate States of America, 1861-1865. Davis died in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 6, 1889. Davis wrote his letter Dec. 24, 1886, from Beauvoir, Mississippi, to Thomas B. Wilder in appreciation for a copy of the resolutions passed by the North Carolina CSA veterans at their Louisburg, North Carolina, reunion.
