NC Baptist Historical Collection
About NCBHC
The North Carolina Baptist Historical Collection (also known as the Ethel Taylor Crittenden Collection in Baptist History) documents the history of North Carolina Baptist churches, institutions, and individuals. The collection contains materials on Southern, Missionary, Primitive, African-American, Union, and Alliance of Baptist churches. These materials include over 16,000 books, periodicals, association annuals and other printed materials; church records; association minutes; and church vertical files. In addition, there are more than 1000 biographical folders containing information on and photographs of Baptist pastors and Wake Forest alumni.
The Collection serves as a repository for records from North Carolina Baptist churches and institutions. See our Church Records page for more information about these collections. The NCBHC is also the repository for the Alliance of Baptists and the Woman's Missionary Union of North Carolina archives.
Wake Forest University provides funding for the staffing and upkeep of the NCBHC. The University is committed to maintaining the collection as an important resource for Baptist and North Carolina history.

The holdings of the NC Baptist Historical Collection are open to the public. A microfilm reader/printer is available in the department, and photocopying or scanning of print resources may be permitted.
Published and unpublished materials in the collection are subject to standard copyright restrictions. All photocopying or other reproduction of materials must be approved by the special collections staff, and payment for reproductions is required at the time of service. Most church records cannot be reproduced in their entirety without the written permission of the church in which they originated.
The library welcomes visiting researchers to the NCBHC. All users of NCBHC materials are required to abide by our Special Collections use policies. We strongly encourage visiting researchers to contact our staff in advance, so that we can provide more efficient access to our resources.
Genealogists and church historians are welcome in the NCBHC. However, genealogy is not the primary focus of our research collections, and our staff cannot spend extensive amounts of time doing research for personal projects. For more information, please consult our genealogist information page.
