Administrative Committees

Administrative Council

The Administrative Council is comprised of the Director of the Library, Team Leaders, and two elected support staff members. The Administrative Council meets monthly to discuss, develop, and review plans, projects, and issues relevant to the Library and its roles in the University. Minutes of Administrative Council meetings are sent to Lib-l, the library staff listserv.

Emergency Weather Team

The Emergency Weather Team responds to weather emergencies to open and operate the library during inclement conditions. Public Services Areas Only.

Interdepartmental Roundtable

The Interdepartmental Roundtable meets regularly to share information, ideas, news, and concerns. Continual communication helps to ensure collaboration and cooperation across departments and teams.

Kitchen

The Kitchen Committee is responsible for the general upkeep of the library's staff lounge. Supplies are periodically checked and replaced, if needed, and a service schedule is maintained and posted in the staff lounge for reminding each staff member of his or her week of service.

Staff Association

The Library Staff Association exists to promote the welfare of the staff and the Library, and to provide organization for staff activities. As stated in their by-laws, the Staff Association meets annually, with additional meetings convened as needed.

Human Resources Committees

Employee Recognition

The Employee Recognition Committee is charged with developing and implementing strategies for recognizing ZSR employees. The Committee is responsible for planning the annual Employee Recognition Luncheon, typically held in May the week after graduation. The Committee is also responsible for administering the Dedicated Deacon Award for informal recognition and the Yearly Employee Recognition Awards for sustained excellence throughout the year. The Committee also lends support to other informal recognition events such as our potluck meals.

New Employee Orientation

The New Employee Orientation Committee coordinates orientation activities for staff who are new to the Library. The committee developed a new employee orientation checklist and a new employee orientation manual. The materials are regularly updated to reflect changes in the Library.

Staff Development

The Staff Development Committee is charged with developing and implementing staff development plans and activities for the staff of the Library. Activities range from hands-on computer training, team building seminars, and informal lunch time presentations to off-site training opportunities.

Information Resources Committees

Disaster Preparedness

The Disaster Preparedness Committee leads recovery efforts during actual disasters, assists with fire drill procedures, and building evacuations. The committee develops and annually updates a Disaster Preparedness Manual. The committee reviews procedures with the Library staff and provides pertinent in-service training when needed. The Committee will also work with the University on preparedness for campus or city-wide disasters.

Scholarly Communications

The Scholarly Communications Committee will investigate issues and make recommendations on actions that Wake Forest can take to promote new models of scholarly communication. Membership will include representatives from the Coy C. Carpenter Medical Library, the Professional Center Library and the Z. Smith Reynolds Library.

Marketing & Outreach Committees

Marketing

The Marketing Committee promotes ZSR library services, resources, and facilities to Wake Forest students, faculty, and staff, as well as the broader Winston-Salem community. The Committee seeks to understand its target patron groups and designs activities or services that will increase its visibility and raise awareness of the library's value to the university. Activities range from creating a brand identity for the library to improving the signage in the building to creating special events for one or all of our target groups.

Library Lecture Series Programming

The Library Lecture Series Programming Committee is charged with planning lectures and discussions that will support the current curriculum; address current issues and events; acknowledge and accentuate the current collection and bring together the many diverse points of view found in our community.

Publications

The Publications Committee of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library assists in creating publications for outreach to the WFU community. Particular publications will be created to address specific needs of students, faculty, and staff. The Committee also serves to assist the Director when occasional publications are needed.

Wake the Library

The Wake the Library Committee will coordinate the library's "Wake the Library" program - all-night study hours during exam periods. The committee will plan the schedule, solicit volunteers, seek donations from the university, coordinate the food, plan the publicity, etc.
