New Format

Starting this year we’ll be sharing our department news via monthly blog post, rather than an emailed newsletter. This will allow you to more readily reference the information in previous posts. You will also be able to easily browse the newsletter archive by clicking the “Public Services Newsletter” tag at the bottom of each post.

Leganto Migration

Public Services has started migrating our course reserves service to a new platform called Leganto. Leganto is an ExLibris product so it should work well with Alma. Leganto also promises greater compatibility with Canvas (the campus course management system). The migration team includes David Link, James Harper, Jessica Wilson-Saia, Kyle Denlinger, Rodrigo Castro and Thomas Dowling from the library. Drew Ray and Sabrina Mack from Campus IT are joining us to help with the Canvas integration. From ExLibris (now Clarivate) we have Taylore Schaefges and Donna Smith (who also helped us migrate to Alma back in 2020). We expect to go live with Leganto just before the Summer Semester starts.

Welcome to Our New Research Support Assistant!

We are excited to announce the addition of Erin Jones to our team as a Research Support Assistant. Erin’s expertise and enthusiasm will be a valuable asset to our library services. Keep an eye out for Erin at the library services desk, where she will be readily available to assist with patron needs. Will Ritter is actively coordinating meetings between Erin and various department directors and committee chairs in order to get her acquainted and up-to-speed as quickly as possible.

Accessioning of ROTC Collection

With the exception of roughly ten boxes of materials currently under review by Resource Services, the ROTC collection has been fully accessioned at Offsite! Here’s an overview of the process:

  • The accession process began on 11/16/2023, and ended on 01/29/2024.
  • Work progressed steadily, with 2442 items accessioned in November, 1192 items accessioned in December, and the final 1571 items accessioned in January.
  • In total, 5205 items were accessioned from the ROTC library to Offsite Storage.

Thanks to Ty Wilson for all his work with these materials over the past several months.

Resumption of the Q’s Reorganization Post Elevator Repair

The long-awaited elevator repairs are finally complete, allowing us to resume the reorganization of the Q books. With the help of our student employees, we are now shifting the start of the Q books from their temporary location on Reynolds 1 up to their permanent location on Reynolds 2. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this work.

Update on Student Hiring and Training

We have completed the hiring process of additional students to fill vacant roles in our department for the spring semester and the training of our new student staff members is underway. We look forward to the fresh perspectives and energy that our new student staff will bring to our library services.
