Starting Sunday February 17, the Z. Smith Reynolds Library will be open overnight 5 nights a week. The library will open each Sunday at 10 a.m. and will not close until 7 p.m. the following Friday. Saturday hours, currently 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., will remain the same. The new schedule will remain in effect every week during the fall and spring semesters.

“Ever since I became ZSR Director in 2004, students have been asking for longer library hours. First we stayed open until 1:00 am, then we started Wake the Library during exam week, and now we are pleased to remain open 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. It is all part of fulfilling our mission: helping our students succeed!” said Lynn Sutton, ZSR Library Director.

From 1-8 a.m., only students, faculty, and staff will be admitted to the building, and will need to swipe their ID cards to enter. A security guard will be posted near the entrance from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night. “We also wanted to ensure that we could continue to provide a safe and welcoming study space for the students of Wake Forest. So, we are very pleased that Campus Police has also provided coverage throughout the overnight hours at our security desk. The security guard will ensure that only currently registered students, and currently affiliated staff and faculty are the only people that can come into the library between 1am and 8am Monday through Friday,” according to Mary Beth Lock, Head of Access Services for the library.

Wanda Brown, Associate Director of the ZSR Library, said, “Providing 24/5 access to our library’s facility, collections and services is the first of several strategic initiatives that we believe once implemented will greatly enhance and support the continued successes of our students, faculty and staff. So stay tuned, there’s more excitement to come!”
