Beginning this semester, the Z. Smith Reynolds Library will begin circulating new, emerging technologies along with its other multimedia equipment from The Bridge. These items are available to all students, faculty, and staff of the University, and can be borrowed for up to three days at a time, checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.
In our first batch of new technologies, we have one each of the major competitors in the e-book reader market: an Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Sony Touch Reader. Each has a selection of books preloaded, with more to come in the future, so check back frequently.
We have also received four Apple iPads, all for checkout. These iPads come loaded with several selected apps to try, along with a number of e-books and other multimedia items. Our iPads also have active and unlimited 3G connections, allowing you to surf the web or use GPS-enabled apps anywhere with decent cell coverage. You can also use the devices without worrying about putting your private information, emails, or syncing your own apps, as The Bridge will erase all this information when you return the device. More information regarding our iPads can be found online at the library’s website.
We have numerous other pieces of useful technology available for checkout as well, from cameras to voice recorders, LCD projectors to PowerPoint advancers. Please stop by The Bridge and check them out!
