This semester we have been implementing a new approach to student technology training workshops at ZSR. I’ve been teaching two student assistants, one who has worked for me for four years and one who has worked for me for the last year, how to lead technology workshops for students. We team taught the workshops at first and now they are leading sessions on Excel and Zotero. So far this model is proving very successful and it appears the students enjoy the peer to peer training.
In an interesting turn of events, one of the students in the Excel workshop last Sunday wanted advanced help with Excel for Finance. I checked the catalog and found the title “Building Financial Models with Microsoft Excel A Guide for Business Professionals“, so I sent them the link to this title. This was my first encounter with a DDA e-book and it was just what the student needed!

Great work, Giz. I’d like to take one of your “how to teach technology” training workshops. I think that would be a great skill, and you do it so well!
