I started to simply send this link to Lib-l, but decided to do a quick Gaz post instead! I recently saw a great video on Cnet Crave that gives a quick overview of using Overdrive to access books from your public library. I thought it might be of interest, especially to those of us who buy e-books for our devices when we could borrow them! I know it isn’t a perfect model as you may still have to wait in line for a title, but it is interesting!

While I worked for the Mooresville Public Library, we subscribed to the North Carolina Digital Library (http://ncdigital.lib.overdrive.com/), which is powered by Overdrive. I really liked the capabilities, although it wasn’t iPod/iPhone ready at that time. I’m glad to see things have changed. It was a good service (albeit under-utilized at the time) and much more efficient for those who a) don’t want to pay for a book, but b) prefer reading via an eReader. They also had films and music, though I don’t recall them being especially new or popular.
