On Thursday, May 2nd, the student authors who participated in Writers’ Camp 2024 were celebrated at the book launch for the fourth volume of “Famous First Words: Writers’ Camp 2024.” Writers’ Camp was the final event in the Sam Gladding Writing Experience. After weeks of writing, the authors handed over their work to an editor who readied the volume for publication. Copies of the book arrived just in time for the celebration on May 2nd, where the dean of the library, Tim Pyatt, toasted the authors, and students picked up their personal copies and signed two copies of the book to be added to Special Collections and Archives. Special thanks to Library Dean Tim Pyatt, Associate Dean of Faculty Dr. Marina Krcmar, Assistant Vice President Mentoring and Alumni Personal & Career Development Allison McWilliams, and the Sam Gladding Fund for their financial support of this event. Also, many thanks to the Writers’ Camp team, Tanya Zanish-Belcher, Carolyn McCallum, Meghan Webb, Daisha Bunn, and Maddie Koontz for their support of this event. Finally, a shoutout to Dr. Ryan Shirey for providing the keynote that motivates our student authors!
