ProQuest, one of our major ebook providers, is discontinuing sales of individual ebook titles and ending its pay-per-use (DDA and ATO) purchasing programs. As a result, as of today, August 11, 2025, all ebooks on the ProQuest Ebook Central platform that were part of these programs are being removed from ZSR’s library catalog (Primo). Please note that this does not affect all of our Ebook Central titles; an additional 280,000 ProQuest ebooks remain in our catalog because they are either owned or leased on subscription.

What does this mean for you?

If you are a faculty member using Course Reserves:
We will confirm continued access to any ebook titles added to Course Reserves and contact you regarding any issues.
If you have saved links to affected ebooks that do not work:
Contact askzsr@wfu.edu if you need help finding alternative access. We can still purchase permanent access when available for individual ProQuest ebook titles until June 30, 2026.

This only applies to ebooks through ProQuest DDA and ATO, not from other sources.

What happens next?

We are already adding other use-based ebook purchasing models directly with a number of high-use publishers, and thousands of titles will be added to the catalog by the start of classes in the Fall. We will also continue to buy individual ebook titles from other (non-ProQuest) vendors.

New Ebook Central Reader App

ProQuest has also released a new Ebook Central Reader App to replace Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) for full-book downloads. More information about the new app and instructions for how to install it can be found on the ProQuest Ebook Central help guide. Users can continue to read online, download chapters, and manage their bookshelf as usual in the online reader. Please contact askzsr@wfu.edu with any issues.
