Black woman looks at a map of the city of Omaha, Nebraska

ZSR recently purchased an institutional streaming license for the documentary film, Divisible. This award-winning film provides a detailed look into redlining: what happened, where it came from, who was involved, how it supposedly “ended”, and why the 1968 Fair Housing Act did not actually get rid of redlining or its impact. Told through a combination of expert and personal interviews, Divisible explores how redlining impacted and continues to affect the following topics: white privilege, housing, health, education, economics, the highway system, and the criminal justice system.

Although this film centers on redlining in Omaha, Nebraska, redlining has also had a significant impact on the city of Winston-Salem, as outlined in this 2022 post from the Winston-Salem Foundation.

Divisible is available to view on Kanopy and can be assigned in classes. For more information about the film, visit the Divisible website. For more information on using films in your courses, contact your library liaison.
