Accessing the full text of articles has gotten easier! ZSR recently added a service called LibKey that operates behind the scenes to provide reliable links to scholarly journal articles with fewer clicks.LibKey works with data from ZSR’s thousands of journal subscriptions as well as the Unpaywall open access database to quickly and seamlessly link users to scholarly journal articles. There are three ways that LibKey enhances access to articles: linking in the ZSR catalog, libkey.io, and LibKey Nomad.

LibKey in the ZSR Catalog

This image shows a sample article from the ZSR Library Catalog, with a purple box around the links for accessing full text.

The Download PDF option will take you directly to a PDF containing the full text of the article. The Available Online option takes you to the page for the article on the publisher’s website. The View Issue Contents option allows you to browse the table of contents for the associated journal. We have always provided linking to the full text of articles, but the technology behind LibKey reduces the chance of a broken or incorrect link.

LibKey.io

This image shows the libkey.io landing page showing a Wake Forest University logo to indicate that access is provided by the university. It also has a box to enter a DOI or PMID.

LibKey.io allows you to look up an article by DOI (Digital Object Identifier) or PMID (PubMed ID) to see if ZSR provides access to it. If the article is available through ZSR, you will be given a link to the PDF of the article. If the article is not available, you will be taken back to the library catalog so you can request it via ZSR Delivers.

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is an extension available for major browsers (including Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari) that helps you access the full text of articles when searching outside of the ZSR catalog and databases. While this feature requires some setup, it is a powerful tool that can save you time when trying to determine whether you have access to the articles that you need.

Download LibKey Nomad and choose your preferred browser. Select Wake Forest University as your institution. Once the extension is installed, you will see the green LibKey Nomad logo when it detects a journal article. You can expect to see the icon on publisher websites, Wikipedia, PubMed, and other sites. Below are examples of how LibKey Nomad appears on different sites.
