On Wednesday, April 16th, two sections of LIB110 “Research After Wake” visited the Forsyth County Central Library at 660 W 5th Street! Shout-out to Jessica Hassler, Central Library Operations Manager, who led both tours!
We had 19 of our students attend the tours, and the seven other students who were unable to attend are scheduling independent visits. All students in the class must complete a reflection of their visit and respond to a variety of prompts ranging from “Who benefits from this information institution’s services?” and “What are some of the major challenges facing the public library?” to “What is something you learned or experienced at this institution that surprised you?”
Our goal with this experiential learning field trip is to ensure that these graduating seniors are aware of the depth and breadth of information resources available from public libraries that will be helpful to them after graduation. All the students seemed genuinely impressed with the seven-year-old facility in the heart of downtown Winston Salem and the multitude of services the librarians provide!
