Paper was born in China sometime before the first century C.E. Over the next 1500 years it spread through Asia and across the Silk Road to the Middle East and Europe. Along the way, works on paper became a medium of cultural exchange, through maps, drawings, travelers’ tales, and translations. This exhibit of books, maps, and prints from Wake Forest collections traces these interactions from the early modern period through the 19th century.
