  • ZSR Library, Special Collections & Archives Research Room (Room 625)
The 1960s and 70s saw a flowering of African-American poetry unprecedented in American literary history. The poets of the Black Arts Movement fused artistic experimentation with political engagement, giving voice to the complexities of the Black experience in the years immediately following the civil rights movement. This exhibit draws on ZSR Special Collections’ extensive holdings to highlight the achievements of both the poets and the people who published them during these pivotal decades in American history.
  • ZSR Library, Library Auditorium (Room 404)
Join us for a discussion with author John Wood Sweet regarding his book The Sewing Girl’s Tale: A Story of Crime and Consequences in Revolutionary America. This mystery, true crime tale follows Lanah Sawyer, a young woman fighting for justice. The Revolutionary-era drama takes a close look at the first published rape trial in American history. John Wood Sweet, a professor of history at UNC Chapel Hill, is excited to analyze his book and answer questions for students in this academic discussion. This book talk is free and open to the public.
