One of the many things that need to be decided upon as we gear up for our new off site facility is, gee, what kind of forklift will we use to get UP there among the 45 foot tall stacks.
Scott Adair, Greg Scott (whom I’ll fondly call “the Scotts”) joined with a representative of Raymond to discuss the features of our new forklift that will:
Go up high enough to accommodate the upper most reaches of the facility
Be stable enough not to fall over
Be fleet enough to quickly retrieve things and compact enough to rotate in a small space and of course
Be safe for Scott and any one who fills in when Scott is at the beach, (perhaps yours truly).
And be within budget.
After examining the options for forklifts, we also went to the storage facility itself to ensure that ceiling clearances and floor ramps would work for the forklift that was spec’d out.
I didn’t think that consulting on forklifts would ever be a part of my job description, but I’m happy to say that it was a worthwhile adventure, and I feel like we are at least a little closer to the dream of having an off site storage facility. Onward, as Lynn would say!

First we got a golf cart, now a forklift! Scott, you are going to have so much fun!
A fact not many know about me but might come in handy when Scott vacations: in my pre-librarian life I was forklift qualified! So keep me in mind for a substitute 🙂
Sounds like people are lining up to be Scott’s backup!
oooohhhh, it’s all shiny and new!
