Earlier this year, the Carpenter Library decided to do away with its book returns since so few books from their collection actually circulate. They offered the book returns to ZSR for free. Since our book return out front has trouble keeping up in the end of semester onslaught, we decided to take them! The book returns were a little weather worn so they were brought from Carpenter to Reynolda Campus and have been held in “Zone 2” over in facilities for a number of weeks. First they needed a coat of paint to freshen them up, and then they needed decals applied to identify them as belonging to ZSR. Today, Craig and I went over to facilities to apply decals to one of them. The decal on the hood reads “Z. Smith Reynolds Library. Pickup at 10a and 2p, Monday-Friday”.
One of the two new book returns will be placed outside of the Student Health Center. The other will be placed on Gully, on the corner of the Mag quad closest to Tribble. (This one will have the added benefit of actually being on the street for drive up access, though it will still be on the passenger side of the car.) They will be emptied during our regular “ZSR Delivers” campus runs. They will be installed soon, and certainly before the end of the semester to help contain the avalanche.

I think we really need to spiff up the golf cart now! Maybe flames painted on the sides…spinner rims…
Seriously, THANK YOU for working out the addition of these book drops!
I love love love the idea of additional book drops… especially adding one that has drive up access! One of the banes of my existence at NCSU and UNCG (during my time there; I know at least UNCG has fixed this since then) was that in order to return a book you had to find parking and walk a bit to get to the library for the book drop!
It is wonderful to have other book drops on campus. I think patrons will appreciate the convenience. Thanks.
Go Deacs!
This is a great idea- good work for turning these around so quickly!
