Our third Capture the Flag@ZSR event on Friday, September 2nd, was our biggest event to date with around 150 students attending the event! The participants piled into ZSR at 9pm sharp and immediately went through 14 pizzas in about 5 minutes, courtesy of Campus Life and Meghan Haenn, and were ready to get started! Based on the great response to the Facebook event, we knew to expect a good turnout and planned accordingly. Barry Davis got us set up with a great PA/Sound system earlier in the day (available for checkout from The Bridge) that proved valuable not only for blasting music during the event but also for making announcements to the participants during the games! From past games we’ve learned some tricks to improve the event. Having multiple flags for each team to find and having “human flags” that could move around the building helped make the games exciting for all! Susan Smith took some excellent photos of the event.

In addition to Barry’s audio help and Susan serving as event photographer, there were many other librarians who participated in the event. Mary Beth helped run the event and check out locker keys, Megan and Rebecca not only assisted but also served as the officials whoaccompaniedeach team to hide their flags and ensured the rules were followed by each team (Think UN Election Observers!) Chris and Carolyn monitored each game, walking each floor (Think UN Peacekeepers!) Thanks to everyone’s help, we were able to play two games before 11pm! This Friday we will be screening theBlu-Ray edition of “Zombieland” in surround sound in the new auditorium from 7-8:30pm and then playing Humans V. Zombies from 9-11pm! These events are a fun way to kick off a new semester and get new students into the Library!
