On October 12th and 13th, the ZSR Library, along with the Graduate School, hosted a new event, a two-day thesis boot camp for WFU graduate students. Both Reynolda campus and Wake Downtown graduate students were invited to attend. Fifteen graduate students attended from eleven different programs! We hosted six workshops, four on Thursday and two on Friday, and ended with “Shut up and Work” time on Friday afternoon. Both Dr. Shirey from the Writing Center and Dr. Shuman from the Learning Assistance Center lead sessions, along with three librarians from ZSR! (Special thanks to Molly Keener and Meghan Webb for their support of this event!)
It was a pleasure to see these student share their experiences and get to know each other better over these two days. We are following up this successful event with a Spring Break “Shut Up and Write” event in an effort to better support our graduate students in the thesis writing process! This was a wonderful team effort involving partners across campus, and the graduate students were excited to participate!

Congratulations on a great concept!
This is so good! A valuable lesson at just the right time to students who otherwise might feel like they should know this stuff already. What a great idea.
Big, big kudos to Hu and Meghan for a fantastic first boot camp! It was a success, and I can’t wait to see how this program develops. Thanks for inviting me to be part of it!!
I’m so glad this went well. It is exciting to see that you had participation from such a broad range of programs!
