Homecoming is always a special event on the Wake Forest campus, but it was especially poignant this year. Special Collections was involved in a variety of events, and we appreciated seeing all the happy faces of our alums!
On Friday afternoon, we hosted a reunion of the 1968 Football Team with over 75 team and family members attending. In addition to a brief program, our visitors enjoyed a popup athletics exhibit and recorded remarks from Coach Tate (who currently lives in Nebraska). This all started with a donation of a petition signed by players in 1968 promising to reunite in 1975, please check it all out (including donated football footage of the Deacons v UNC–their only win that year).
On Saturday, in collaboration with former Board of Trustees President and SCA collections donor Donna Boswell, the Alumni Office, and Advancement, we hosted a brunch for the Strings Society and other women’s societies on Davis Field. Over 90 people attended (including President Wente who stopped by) and a program which featured Presidential Endowed Professor of Southern History and Dean of the College Michele Gillespie. We put out a call for additional archives materials to be donated and also offered the possibility of participating in an oral history project. In addition, we hosted a Strings exhibit in Room 625 and also participated in the Festival on the Quad, where we handed out stickers and other swag. All in all, it was an amazing Homecoming!
