The ZSR Ambassadors are the library’s student advocacy group, supporting ZSR through programmatic assistance and candid feedback. Since the inception of this program in 2012, our Ambassadors have offered a student voice for outreach, service, and facility considerations, and the group is frequently consulted by library administration for their perspective and counsel. In recent years, our library Ambassadors have worked to develop and implement library programs, student feedback channels, and design proposals for library spaces.
Every spring semester, we hold Ambassador recruitment and welcome a new cohort of ZSR Ambassadors in the fall. Recently, we asked our 2024-2025 Ambassadors :
“What should new students know about ZSR?”
I would like new students to know they shouldn’t be intimidated by the size of the library! ZSR is full of students and staff who are willing to answer your questions. I remember when I was first learning my way around the library, I had no problem asking for directions as the ZSR environment is warm and friendly!– Samantha Heyison
All students should definitely know how they can rent technology equipment, print, and get help finding books, all by talking to someone at the circulation desk. It is very easy to get help with whatever problem you are having by just asking someone working at ZSR. – Hope Nitsche
One thing that new students should know about the ZSR is the wide variety of resources you can utilize, both in-person and online! I really love the access ZSR gives to publications like the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal!– Katherine Claybrook
What I have to tell you about the library is that there’s so much more to the library than what you see at first glance (like… so much more). So much to explore, so many books to read, so many places to study; I recommend taking the time to explore and find your perfect studying spot (mine is on the first floor… and yes it is accessible).– Chris Langley
One thing new students should know about ZSR is that there are so many people available, from research librarians to the tutors in the writing center, who will be able to help you find any information you might need, and all you have to do is ask!– Neriah Olivier
All new students should take advantage of the bridge. They are incredibly helpful with any technology questions and even rent out laptops.– Rohan Gupta
I think everyone should explore all the levels of ZSR. The library might look packed with no available space, but there are always some great studying spots in hidden corners of the library! This is where I get some of my most productive studying done! – Lisi Chapin
So, one thing I think all new students should know about the library is the large number of collaborative rooms that can be reserved. These rooms give you a great place to work with others, give mock presentations, or hold study sessions. Apart from these, all new students should explore the library to find their favorite spot and all the services ZSR offers! – Collin Sharpe
One thing new students should know about the ZSR is to take advantage of studying in the Atrium on the 6th floor. It offers great quiet spots for studying, especially when you have a lot of homework to get done.– Lexine Appiah
New students should know that ZSR is an incredible resource if you need to do research of any kind! They have journals, books, and other media covering pretty much every topic you can think of. And if you need an article from an obscure chemical synthesis journal (just me? okay then), it’s really easy to request a scan of it from offsite storage. Utilize that and utilize our incredible team of research librarians! Your professors will thank you for it. – Cat D’Arcangelis

Excellent advice, all around!
ZSR wouldn’t be ZSR without students, and we can’t do our jobs well with the Ambassadors <3 <3
