What I’ve learned two weeks in…

So it may be a little dramatic to say the last couple of weeks have been life changing, but I’m gonna go there! I know transitioning to a new role is life changing in itself – and I’ve moved into new roles relatively frequently in my life, either by choice or because it was just where my life was taking me at the time – but I can’t say enough how much I appreciate the positive experiences I’ve had at ZSR so far. Of course the science librarian role itself is a perfect fit for me and exactly where I want to be relative to my career, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt as welcomed in any other setting. So for that, I thank you!

Just a little bit about me until I meet you all in person…

I started out in corporate wellness at the St. Joseph’s – Baptist Hospital system in Tampa. I coordinated employee wellness incentive programs and facilitated weight management and community education programs for about 8 years. Then the creative side of me kicked in, and I pursued a degree in Interior Design. I worked with an architecture firm in Tampa doing CAD design, space planning, and construction documents for corporate and industrial spaces. I’ll skip over moving to the Bahamas, having kids, and a short stint as a Financial Analyst in big tobacco, and fast forward to finding librarianship, my purpose, and ultimately ZSR!

My side hustles (minus the money making component)…

I live in Pfafftown with my husband and two kids. I read A LOT. I think at any given moment I typically have up to 3 books going on at once – I oscillate between genres but I do prefer fiction for leisure reading. Two of my favorite podcasts are The MothSimply Fortune. I volunteer / fundraise for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Senior Services. In fact, every March I can (loosely) call myself an “artist” as I contribute to the Senior Services Art Sale supporting Meals on Wheels. What else? Wordle, Words with Friends, Crosswords – I’m into those. And to remove the couch potato visions you may very well have in your heads right now, I also love swimming, spinning, and yoga (the yoga is mainly out of necessity these days).

More to come…

Thank you for making these last couple of weeks already so memorable. I look forward to working with and learning from all of you. I’m excited and thankful to say that I’ve found my new happy place and, I’ll go ahead and add, partner in crime (a.k.a. Denice) if CRIME = STEM librarianship + WORLD domination. See you all soon!
