ZSR Library Safety & Security Bulletin for August 2024
Who We Are
Welcome to the August 2024 Safety & Security Bulletin. The Safety and Security Committee is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all library staff, patrons, students, and visitors within the ZSR Library. We create and maintain emergency response plans, provide faculty and staff training on safety protocols and procedures, and strive toward inclusivity and accessibility for neurodivergent, handicapped, and other underrepresented populations. We work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure that safety and security policies are regularly reviewed and updated to create library spaces where everyone feels protected and supported.
Current Initiatives
Our committee is currently concerned with enhancing emergency preparedness throughout the library. We are updating the protocol to ensure that everyone, both staff and patrons, is aware and prepared for any type of emergency. This encompasses regular safety checks, emergency drills, and continual collaboration with WFU’s emergency management team.
To assist in our efforts, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with our comprehensive resources:
- ZSR Emergency Brochure: This online brochure provides an overview of emergency procedures and contacts within the library.
- Emergency Preparedness LibGuide: Our LibGuide offers detailed information on how to prepare for various emergencies, from natural disasters to medical incidents.
- WFU Policy on Inclement Weather and Unusual Conditions: Stay informed about university policies regarding closures and delays due to inclement weather and other extraordinary conditions.
Stay Informed: Wake Safe App
In addition to our resources, we highly recommend downloading the Wake Safe App, which provides immediate access to safety tools and resources right on your phone. This app is essential for staying informed and prepared in case of an emergency
Watch for Wake Alerts
As we move into hurricane season, please stay vigilant for Wake Alerts and email notifications regarding potential closures or delays. The safety of our community is paramount, and these alerts will provide timely updates and instructions during severe weather events.
Run. Hide. Fight.
In an active threat situation, remember the Run. Hide. Fight. method. If you can, Run to safety. If escape isn’t possible, Hide in a secure place. As a last resort, Fight to protect yourself. Stay alert and prepared—your safety is a top priority. This training video helps to explain.
Preparedness for Hurricane Season
With hurricane season upon us, it’s crucial to ensure that you have the necessary emergency supplies. The Red Cross offers an emergency supplies list of recommended items to have on hand. Be sure to review this list and prepare accordingly.
Emergency Plan
Finally, we urge all members of the ZSR community to review our Emergency Plan, which outlines procedures and resources available during various types of emergencies. Your safety is our top priority, and being prepared is a shared responsibility.
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and prepared. Together, we can ensure that ZSR remains a safe and secure place for everyone.
