After a construction-filled summer, Public Services is excited to welcome back both new and returning student workers! We have hired 11 new students in our department, and in the next week or so, will be in various processes of training them over the next few weeks. The Public Services team is looking forward to introducing them to everyone in the building, but please feel free to introduce yourself.

On August 25, Public Services hosted sweet treats for student workers to kick off the new school year. Special thanks to Jemma Johnson and Laura Milcarzyk for organizing this event.

Student Hiring Fair

The Student Job Fair was held August 25 in the Mandelbaum Room, with signage, setup, and student welcome materials handled by the User Services team. Laura Milcarzyk, Peter Romanov, and Patrick Ferrell are coordinating student hiring and onboarding as the semester begins.

Textbooks in ZSR

Every semester, the library purchases several expensive, high use textbooks from the bookstore. These books are placed on course reserves making them available for a 2 hour check out within ZSR. This semester’s batch should be available in a couple of weeks. We wait to make sure there are enough copies for the students before we purchase them for the library.
Students can search the ZSR Discovery Catalog to see if we own a particular textbook.

Shifting Projects

The collection of Journals and Periodicals is being moved from Reynolds 4 down to Reynolds 1. The Music scores (M call number) have all been moved from Reynolds 6 to Reynolds 4. Currently, the Art Collection (N call number) is in the process of being moved from the Reynolds 6 to Reynolds 4.

Building Updates

  • 2025 Summer Renovation Projects: The Library reopened to the public on Monday, August 18. Additionally, Public Services will work on returning furniture that was relocated during the renovation to their original locations.

  • Fall Hours: Fall semester hours began August 24 and late-night hours now run until 1:00 a.m. most nights. Now that construction is complete, Public Services is out of room 330 and back at the main service desk.

  • Fire Alarm Inspection: The Fire Marshal conducted a Fire Alarm inspection on Thursday August 28th. The test was successful.

  • Repairs in the Testing Center: The floor in Room 231 (CLASS Testing Center) buckled and Facilities had to remove approximately 30 cubicles to enable their crew to correct the issue.

  • Graduate Lounge: Facilities inspected Room 425A (Graduate Lounge) and concluded that the room will need a new A/C Unit.

  • Statistics: In August 2025, ZSR submitted 37 requests. 9 are listed as “in progress” and 2 are listed as “pending”. The remaining 26 have been completed.
