Shifting Projects
The second and final relocation of Oversized materials on Reynolds 1 is now complete. Planning is underway for the relocation of Periodicals and Government Documents, pending final approvals. In the meantime, the music scores are beginning to be moved from Reynolds 6 to Reynolds 4 as part of the overall collection reorganization.
Building Updates
Summer 2025 Renovation Project: The renovation work is slightly behind schedule due to adverse weather conditions. Facilities is actively coordinating with the construction crew to adjust timelines and ensure deadlines are met. Work on the Reynolds roof, atrium ceiling, steam stations, and bathrooms is now in its final stages.
Building Foundation Cracks: During the renovation, Facilities discovered cracks in the building foundation. The exterior cracks—located above the temporary ramp at the West Entrance—will be repaired as part of the current project. Interior cracks require further assessment to determine the scope of repairs. Vannoy, the construction company overseeing the project, will conduct a detailed analysis and develop a proposal for next steps.
Water Damage: Reynolds 6: On July 6, a significant water leak occurred in Reynolds 6, affecting rooms 600A, 600B, 611, and 631. The source of the leak was identified and resolved. As part of the response, the ceiling was tested for asbestos. Fortunately, no asbestos was found.
Auditorium Leak: A major leak in the Auditorium was traced to a broken coil in the HVAC system. Since this specific coil is no longer manufactured, a custom replacement had to be ordered. The new part has finally arrived, and installation is scheduled to begin once the roof renovation is completed.
Ticketing System & Communication: Tanya Zanish-Belcher and Rodrigo Castro met with Steve Adams, Director of Facilities Operations, to review and streamline communication between the Library and Facilities units. The discussion focused on improving coordination and clarifying processes moving forward.
Professional Development & Publications
Rodrigo Castro served on the Cross-Institutional Re-Envisioning Advisory Group, convened to support the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) in redefining its mission and vision. With the group’s work now complete, the insights gathered will play an important role in shaping the themes that will guide ODI’s future initiatives.
