Edwin Hallman, Jr. Writing Scholarship Prize

This post is to announce the 2026 Writing Scholarship Prize for Wake Forest University undergraduates who are interested in writing. Funded by a private donor, the ZSR Library and Special Collections & Archives will oversee this competition, titled Curating the World I Want to Live In.

Scholarship Prize Amount: $1000

  • Writers may submit creative fiction (including drama and personal essays) of up to 5000 words. A.I. may not be used. Calls for submission will be Tuesday, Sept. 8 through Thursday, October 1 and should be submitted to archives@wfu.edu
  • The topic is open. The ZSR Library will appoint a 3-faculty judging panel, who will review the submissions (which will be anonymous). The winner will be notified by mid-November.
  • This scholarship prize is open only to Wake Forest undergraduate students. Funds can only be used for tuition and/or book purchases.
  • Previously unpublished submissions only. Published means the work has appeared for public consumption in any form, including on blogs and social media.
  • Multiple submissions are accepted, maximum of three, all to be submitted to archives@wfu.edu, with your name and contact information.
  • The winning work will be published and shared with the wider campus and Winston-Salem communities.
