When Chris Burris and I got the idea for a Summer Lunch & Learn series back in May, we weren’t quite sure how to make it happen, but after speaking with Associate Dean Sandy Rodriguez, we applied for an “Innovation and Opportunity Grant” to provide lunch for anyone at ZSR who wanted to dine at a local restaurant and visit a nearby historical marker or landmark. (All in an effort to help get folks connected with the greater Winston-Salem community AND provide opportunities to meet during a summer of remote work due to the construction in the ZSR Library!)
Last Tuesday, for the first Summer Lunch and Learn, 16 folks from the ZSR Library met at St. Philip’s Church in Old Salem and received a tour of the church from historian Jordyn Jones. Mr. Jones did an outstanding job explaining the long and complex history of Old Salem, the Moravians, and St. Philip’s Church!
After that amazing tour, we carpooled to “Nosh and Grind,” a new breakfast/lunch restaurant in the Park Building next to Corpening Plaza! (Shout out to Veronica, who helped Chris and me spread the lunch charges across three P-cards so we could keep the line moving!) The food and service were great!
Stay tuned for our next Summer Lunch & Learn in late July! Details and a calendar invitation will be coming to Lib-L soon! (And a big thanks to the Dean and Admin Team for making these lunch and learns possible!)
