On Wednesday, July 23rd, fourteen folks from the ZSR Library participated in an awesome tour of the Delta Arts Center, followed by an incredible lunch at “My Goodness Gracious of W/S.” This was the second of three Lunch and Learns funded by a ZSR innovation grant. (You can read about our first lunch and learn here!)

From the Delta Arts Center’s website, “Winston-Salem Delta Fine Arts, Inc. was established in 1972 as an independent, non-profit, 501©(3), tax-exempt corporation by the Winston-Salem graduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a national organization of African American college women founded in 1913 whose principal purposes and aims are to engage in cultural, educational and public service activities.” And the group from ZSR saw this mission in action on Wednesday! Upon arrival, Program Director, Timothy Jeffers (TJ), welcomed the group and gave us an excellent tour of the facility and history of the organization, while taking us through the current exhibition by artist Kara Elizabeth. This was followed by an incredible talk from the artist AND an amazing activity where the folks from ZSR painted in watercolors on templates provided by the artist, Kara Elizabeth, who also guided us on the use of watercolors. Kara Elizabeth moved from table to table, offering encouragement and instruction. It was such an engaging experience to learn from such an accomplished artist while also learning about their story and their body of work. We highly encourage everyone to visit the Delta Arts Center and see this exhibit!

From the Delta Arts Center, we moved across the street to “Goodness Gracious of W/S” for the best lunch I’ve had in a long time! It was just wonderful to have time to catch up with colleagues over a meal!

With August already upon us and jam-packed with projects and back-to-school preparations, we’ve decided to reschedule the third Lunch and Learn for winter break in December. You can check out photos from our first two ZSR Lunch and Learns on Flickr!
