Olive Branch Baptist Church constituted October 30, 1858. This church has been a member of Brown Creek [E] (1858-83) and Union (1884-present) Baptist associations. This collection includes five donation records of the church, including subscription lists for the building of a new meeting house at Olive Branch (1858) and for the starting of a new school (1860) in the meeting house.

Oscar Fitz Allen Baxter was born July 5, 1819, in Currituck County, N.C. He received his bachelor's (1840) and master's degrees (1842) from Wake Forest College and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Baxter went on to become a passed assistant surgeon in the U.S. Navy. Materials in this collection include a listing from the detailing Baxter's educational and professional background along with an autobiographical letter addressed to the Medical Naval Board in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
