Tanners Baptist Church was constituted in 1785. It moved and became a part of Warren Plains and Tar River (1841-53, 1880-present) Baptist associations. This collection consists of minutes of church conferences from January 25, 1828 to October 3, 1863 [broken series], including collections for Warren Plains Baptist Church, 1883-1886; membership lists; loose papers; dismissals from the church to form Gardner's Baptist Church (1844); and an undated church property plat.

Tarboro Primitive Baptist Church was founded in 1819 in Tarboro, N.C. (Edgecomb County). The church is a member of the South Roanoke Baptist Association. This collection contains dismission letters, a subscription list and financial records for the church building, association letters to Kehukee Primitive Baptist Association, a brief historical account, confession of faith, a church covenant, and letters received from Little Conetoe Church (1819, 1838) and a letter sent to Little Conetoe Church.

Dr. Thomas F. Gossett was a Professor of English at Wake Forest. Dr. Louise Y. Gossett was a professor of English at Salem College. The Thomas F. and Louise Gossett Papers consist primarily of reviews and articles on A.R. Ammons and Flannery O'Connor collected by the Gossetts from various newspapers and periodicals. There are a few photographs of O'Connor and photocopied correspondence. There are a few letters from Ammons to the Gossetts, submissions to and issues of The Nickelodeon, and audio recordings of Ammons reading his poetry. Thomas M. Pittman was a lawyer, judge, member of N.C. Baptist Historical Society, and editor of the N.C. Baptist Historical Papers. His wife, Elizabeth Norwood (Briggs) Pittman, was the Woman's Missionary Union Corresponding Secretary and served in the Young Woman's Auxiliary. This collection documents both Pittmans. Materials are primarily biographical information on North Carolina Baptist pastors, as well as materials regarding the Junior Reserves and the Baptist 75 Million Campaign, and correspondence with other denomination leaders.

Grady attended Wake Forest College from 1896 to 1898. He later served as a Hospital Corpsman aboard the USS Hospital Ship Missouri while they were investigating the sinking of the USS Maine.

Thomas Slade, native of Rockingham County, North Carolina attended Wake Forest College, 1848-53. He later taught school at the Trinity Academy, Caswell County, North Carolina, 1854-; and in Marion and Macon counties in Ala., 1856-59. In 1859 he is listed as a planter living at Lennox Castle, Rockingham County, North Carolina. Mr. Slade was born Jan. 5, 1830 and died Dec. 24, 1904. He was married to Miss Sunie Howard of Ala. They had one son and one daughter.
