Did you know that Wake Forest’s library has a manuscript book made for French university students around 1240? Original 16th-18th century maps documenting the European colonization of North America? An 1855 first edition of Leaves of Grass with Walt Whitman’s signature? A collection of over 350 poetry pamphlets from the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s-70s?

Join Special Collections Librarian and Rare Books Curator Megan Mulder for an introduction to ZSR Library’s fascinating Rare Books Collection. We’ll learn about the history of the collection, what makes a book “rare,” and how we are continuing to grow the collection. And we’ll look at some of the materials  that have been integrated into Wake Forest college classes over the past year. If you think you know what a rare book is and who is likely to use it, you may be in for some surprises!

Megan Mulder has been the Rare Books Curator at Z. Smith Reynolds Library since 2011. She has an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Virginia and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
