ZSR contributed its first digital collection to JSTOR’s Open Community Collections. Our World War I Posters collection now joins over 30 other institutions’ unique primary resources collections on the JSTOR platform.
The ZSR collection contains 134 propaganda posters pertaining to World War I. The posters publicize efforts of organizations including the United States Food Administration, the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), the Red Cross, the United States Treasury department, and other American and allied organizations.
The WWI Posters collection originally launched as a Flickr album. Adding the collection to JSTOR included submitting the poster images along with the metadata pulled from the Flickr collection.
All the materials in JSTOR’s Open Community Collections are open access. By being a part of the JSTOR platform, the posters collection will be accessible to millions of JSTOR users, and integrated alongside JSTOR’s other research materials.

Thanks, Mel, for working to make these posters so broadly available!
Happy to see this collection shared more widely!
These posters are a great resource. Thanks for working to make them available widely. I worked on stabilizing them a few years ago and was amazed at their messages and the color, which has held up very well for over a century. Thanks Melde!
My dad was a Marine, and I bought him a few of these over the years. I love this memorabilia. Thanks for making these available!
This is good news! Thanks!
Glad these are more accessible – thanks for all your work with these, Melde!
