Special Collections & Archives is saddened by the announcement about the loss of Wake Forest Counseling Professor, Dr. Sam Gladding, one of our greatest supporters.
We had the opportunity in the fall of 2020 to host Sam speaking about his most recent book, Off the Courthouse Square. He was a prolific author and his publications also include Volume 6 of the Wake Forest history: The Hearn Years. He spoke about the President Hearn years for the ZSR Library in 2015.
He will be greatly missed.

Thank you for sharing. He was a gentle soul. I will miss my ping pong buddy.
Sam was the most positive individual I’ve met. It’s sad to lose such a good person for the Wake Forest community. Thanks for this post.
Thanks for remembering him. It is hard to imagine Wake Forest without him. He will be missed.
Recalling my 1967 Classmate Sam always reminds me of his personal warmth and welcome over the years, especially during campus visits. Sam leaves a legacy for all of Wake Forest. Thank you for remembering Sam.
I am so grateful to have had opportunities to work with him over the years. Sam was invariably kind, funny, appreciative, with such keen insight! Everything that has been said.
