As part of the Mentoring Team I am on with Tanya, Leslie, Rebecca and Ellen M., we discussed involvement in professional organizations, and how difficult it might be for paraprofessionals or folks who have one problem or another with travelling long distances to attend conferences. So, I was picked to come up with a list of upcoming conferences and workshops that are in the state or the general geographic region. I’m sure I’m missing a lot of things, so feel free to add more in the comments section.
North Carolina Serials Conference (Chapel Hill, NC) – March 6
Library Association of UNC-Chapel Hill (LAUNC-CH) Conference (Chapel Hill, NC) – March 13
Metrolina Library Association Tech Summit (Charlotte, NC) – March 13

TALA Paraprofessional Conference (High Point, NC) – May 13
NASIG Conference (including joint programming with the Society for Scholarly Publishing) (Washington, DC) – May 27-30

11th Annual North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) Assessment Conference will be held on Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3 at Elon University. The theme for this year’s conference is High Impact Practice: Assessing Curricular and Co-curricular Learning.
This is a very useful listing, Steve, thanks! One clarification about ASERL on May 5-6: it is not a general conference, but a meeting of the Deans/Directors.
The Innovative Library Classroom Conference will be May 12th in Radford, Virginia.
Thanks for the correction, Lynn! I’ve updated the list to remove the ASERL entry so as not to confuse folks.
Joyner Library Eleventh Annual Paraprofessional Conference at East Carolina on Friday, May 15, 2015
Thank you for this list. It’s helpful to see it all in one place.
Is there a link to the TALA Conference website? I’m trying to find more information on it, but that’s not working out too well.
John, I can’t seem to find a website for it. TALA stands for Triad Academic Library Association, but it still doesn’t help. I can find info on last year’s conference, but not this years. All I know about it is from an email.
Bummer. Thanks for looking. Should you learn some information on it, please shoot me an e-mail and let me know what’s up. (john.a.walsh@alumni.wfu.edu)
