Special Collections & Archives (SCA) will host two major exhibits this fall, along with several events of interest for the local community. All events are held in Room 625, ZSR Library.

From now until October 7, SCA is hosting “Piedmont Craftsmen Presents: Bound in Craft.” This exhibit highlights the hand-bound book alongside craft inspired by literature. Each unique piece – whether ceramic, glass, fiber or jewelry – will feature an aspect related to book arts. Many of the works on display were created specifically for this show. During a reception on September 14 from 5-7 p.m., visitors can meet artist Bryant Holsenbeck and craft their own small book.

From October 17, 2016 to January 2017, SCA will present “Deep Into That Darkness Peering: Gothic Literature from Special Collections & Archives,” which will feature examples of European and American Gothic literature from the ZSR Rare Books Collection. Featured books will include first editions of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, Horace Walpole’s Castle of Otranto and Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.” To accompany this unique exhibit, SCA will host a special Edgar Allan Poe Reading on October 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. featuring Poe’s poetry and stories. You will hear celebrity guest readers and can partake of spooky refreshments.
