Last Wednesday night, Special Collections & Archives collaborated with Stephen Edwards and the folks from Alumni Engagement to host an alumni, friends, and family version of “Hop Into History!” Hop Into History is the brainchild of UNCG University Archivist Erin Lawrimore and involves coordinating a pop-up archival exhibit at a local brewery. Archivists from UNCG, Elon University, Guilford College, and Wake Forest have participated in multiple “Hops” in Greensboro since 2016.
The Office of Alumni Engagement loved the idea and began brainstorming how we can use the same premise to bring alumni together. What they planned was a huge success! Almost sixty WFU alumni, friends, and family members attended the “Hop Into History- Wake Forest Athletics” at the Foothills Tasting Room to enjoy a beer, eat crepes, and enjoy materials from the University Archives. Tanya and I brought a wide variety of materials including trophies, basketball shoes, Howler yearbooks, Old Gold & Black newspapers, pictures, programs, and more. Alumni had a great time connecting and enjoying the materials from the University Archives.
The future of “Hop Into History” is bright! We have already been organizing “Hops” in Winston-Salem with the archivist from Winston-Salem State University. Our next Hop Into History is at Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company on Tuesday, June 20th from 5-7. All are welcome! We will continue to work with the Office of Alumni Engagement to bring Hop Into History to WFU alumni, families, and friends across the state. We hope to see you at our next “Hop!”
