ZSR’s Special Collections & Archives hosted Erin Lawrimore, UNCG University Archivist and Associate Professor, who presented yesterday on the project “Well Crafted NC: Documenting the Craft Beer Industry: The History, Business, and Culture of NC Beer.”
Increasingly, archives and archivists are partnering with community businesses and organizations to document their shared history. An audience of nearly 50 listened as Erin, one of the Well Crafted creators (in addition to Richard Cox and David Gwynne, also present), described the original concept and the continued development of the project through collaborative partnerships and funding. Well Crafted includes the conducting of oral histories with industry leaders and the preservation of the records of individual small businesses. She also shared about new initiatives focused on how to help breweries integrate history into their marketing efforts. As she noted, the most recent collected statistics for North Carolina’s craft beer industry are an annual economic impact of $2.18 billion and the providing of over 12,000 jobs.
The reception afterwards included some beer samples from Winston’s Foothills Brewery (thanks to Rebecca for picking up the growlers!) and a Well Crafted popup exhibit.
