Thank You to Our Students!

Another semester in the books, another opportunity to thank our student workers who help Special Collections & Archives in many capacities. They support our professional staff’s work related to moving collections, repairing and creating special housing for materials (especially books), describing and organizing materials, putting those descriptions online so they’re easier to find and understand,... Thanksgiving Saturday Lunch at ZSR – 2017 Edition

Since Thanksgiving 2013, ZSR has hosted a meal in the Library on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for students who remain on campus while food services are closed.  In 2013 we tried “dinner and a movie” with pizza and “The Avengers” in the ZSR Auditorium. Newly Published Collections in Fall 2017

Once more, I’m excited to share the long list of collections that are newly processed or whose collection overviews and inventories have been updated in the past few months. Special Collections student workers spend most of their time on this, and I often do as well. Sometimes the process of creating these finding aids is... A New Cart for Special Collections

We in Special Collections recently pulled a bit of a MacGyver to help transport oversize paper items a bit more easily, and Preservation Librarian Craig Fansler and I are here to boast about it. When historians think of archives, they often think of labeled boxes full of labeled folders, perhaps not easy to carry but... Continue reading “A New Cart for Special Collections”

A “Photographic Journey” with Ken Bennett and ZSR

University Photographer Ken Bennett recently published an article titled “My Photographic Journey”  in Wake Forest Magazine. In it, Ken is asked to “submit 10 photos for the photography issue of the Magazine.” It is this exercise that leads Ken to the realization that the ZSR library is a muse for his work. ZSR INSPIRES ME IN... Continue reading “A “Photographic Journey” with Ken Bennett and ZSR”

Digitizing the Baptist Church and Association Files Collection

The Baptist Church and Association Files is ZSR’s next major digital collection on the horizon. Currently in production, this will be the newest addition to our growing online treasury of resources covering the history of Baptist churches and Baptist church associations in North Carolina. As one of the more heavily used resources within ZSR’s Special Collections... Continue reading “Digitizing the Baptist Church and Association Files Collection”
