Just in time for Halloween, Special Collections has gone Goth! A new exhibit, Deep Into That Darkness Peering: Gothic Literature from the ZSR Rare Books Collection, opened this week in the Special Collections & Archives Reading Room (ZSR room 625).
Many items from ZSR’s collection of 18th and 19th century gothic literature are on view, including first editions of The Castle of Otranto, Mysteries of Udolpho, Wieland, Frankenstein, Northanger Abbey, The Raven and Other Poems, Dracula, and others.
On Wednesday, October 26, 5:00-6:30 p.m., Special Collections & Archives will host an opening reception with readings from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. All are welcome to view the exhibit, share Halloween-themed snacks, and listen to Wake Forest faculty, students, and alumni read Poe’s stories and poems.
Deep Into That Darkness Peering will be on exhibit in Special Collections & Archives through January 31, 2017. Open hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, and evening or weekend hours by appointment. We welcome classes and group visits; please contact archives@wfu.edu for more information.

How timely! These pictures alone make me want to curl up with a scary novel and a cup of cocoa.
