The papers of Charles Lee Smith, Wake Forest College alumnus, UNC Board of Trustee Member, Edwards and Broughton president, and Wake Forest donor. The collection include correspondence with Lady Maureen Watson (wife of Sir John Willliam Watson) ranging from the years 1939-1941, Richard T. Ely (American economist, author, and leader of the Progressive movement), and others. His work with Wake Forest, Chapel Hill, and Johns Hopkins is documented along with printed materials of Smith's interests and events attended. A letter written in April, 1924 accounts Smith's visit with Mahatma Gandhi. The collection also contains clippings related to Gandhi at that time.

Charles T. Wilkinson graduated from Wake Forest in 1920 and received his M.D. from Tulane University in 1922. During World War II he was a Lt. Col. (later Col.) and commanding officer of the 171st Station Hospital, New Guinea. This collection consists primarily of letters to and from Dr. Wilkinson while he was serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. There are clippings, a photograph, and printed items in the collection.

These papers of family living in Alleghany County, North Carolina consists primarily of correspondence between William Thomas Choate (1832-64) and his wife, Martha (Fender) Choate (1836-97), during his service as a officer in Company I, 61st Regiment North Carolina State Troops during the Civil War. His letters are concerned with camp life, the Battle of Antietam, casualties, sickness in his company, and the need for food and clothing from home. Her letters are about the family and neighbors, deaths in the family and neighborhood, sickness, running the family farm, care of livestock, and her wanting William to come home. Other correspondents include William Choate's brothers, friends, relatives and others.
